WiP: “The Puppet Master’s Game: Conspiracy Thinking in Georgia and its Impact on Foreign Policy”

CRRC, ARISC and American Councils are pleased to announce the 6th session of the Spring 2025 Tbilisi Works-in-Progress series!

This week’s session will be in hybrid format in-person at the CRRC Georgia office (Chavchavadze Ave. 5, Tbilisi, Georgia, 0179) and online via Zoom.

“The Puppet Master’s Game: Conspiracy Thinking in Georgia and its Impact on Foreign Policy”

Lia Chkhetiani, CRRC Georgia

This presentation will showcase the results of a survey conducted by CRRC-Georgia in the fall of 2024 examining the susceptibility of the Georgian population to mainstream conspiracy theories and to the “Global War Party” narrative propagated by the Georgian Dream party. The study also examines how conspiracy thinking influences public attitudes toward Georgia’s pro-Western foreign policy. This research represents the first systematic attempt to measure and conceptualize the prevalence of conspiracy beliefs in Georgia and to assess their real-world implications for political and foreign policy preferences.

Lia Chkhetiani is a Data Collection Manager at CRRC Georgia. She holds an MA in Political Science from Central European University. Her research interests include social science research methods and techniques, comparative political behavior, and public opinion research.
