Supporting accountable and human rights oriented security sector through research, advocacy and inclusive dialogue

Project objective: The main goal of the project "Supporting accountable and human rights oriented security sector through research, advocacy and inclusive dialogue" is to improve the monitoring of the security system and to enhance the human rights standards in the security system through the programs aimed at increasing analytical, advocacy and awareness capacities.

Part of the activities planned to reach this goal is to study the attitudes and perceptions of the population to understand how well-informed people are about the state security system, how protected they feel, and how various social groups perceive their security.

The project is jointly implemented by the Social Justice Center, the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association, and CRRC-Georgia.
Research design:
1) Population survey on state and personal security issues:
  • Fieldwork dates: May 27th - July 3rd, 2022
  • Number of completed interviews: 2,544
  • Method of interviewing: CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing)
  • Results of the survey are representative of the adult population of Georgia, as well as the population of the capital, other urban and rural, as well as areas densely populated with the ethnic minorities.

2) Focus groups on state and personal security issues:
  • Focus group discussion dates: November, 2022
  • Number of discussions: seven focus groups
  • Mode: Online discussion
  • Geographic distribution: Tbilisi, village Geguti in Imereti, villages in Shida Kartli and Samegrelo, which are adjacent to the administrative borderline with the occupied regions, Samtskhe-Javakheti (ethnic Armenian population), and Kvemo Kartli (ethnic Azerbaijani population).
