Junior Fellowship Program

The CRRC-Georgia Junior Fellowship Program (JFP), launched in 2009, is a 5-9 month program offering extensive work experience and training to selected fellows. It is a unique opportunity for social science-oriented youth looking to gain skill sets that are largely missing in Georgia, such as the ability to analyze complex issues quickly and comprehensively, proficiency in essential computer programs (including statistical programs), and the opportunity to work with extraordinarily experienced and committed colleagues and superiors. Junior Research Fellows are required to contribute to complex research projects on issues that are important to Georgia’s future, write analytical policy papers, be active team members, and work hard.

Mariam Londaridze

Mariam Londaridze earned a BA in Economics with a minor in Business Administration from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 2014. Before joining CRRC as a Junior Fellow, she regularly contributed to the biweekly newsletters reviewing key economic processes in Georgia at Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG). In addition, she was involved in the marketing research at a private IT distributor company. Her research interests are mainly related to economic and social issues.

Maia Komakhidze

Maya graduated from Tbilisi State University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. In 2009, she took part in an exchange program to study at Creekside High School in the USA, and in 2013, she won a scholarship to study in the Czech Republic at Charles University in Prague. Prior to joining the CRRC team as a Junior Fellow, Maya worked at FactCheck Georgia as a project assistant and grants officer. Her research interests include public policy in developing countries, social and political transformations in post-soviet countries, civic engagement, and international institutions and global governance.

Tamar Gzirishvili

Tamar has a BA in Political Science and Philosophy from Clark University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Tbilisi State University and the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer. As a part of her BA curriculum, she spent a semester studying Peace and Conflict Resolution at American University. Prior to joining CRRC as a Junior Fellow, Tamar worked as a researcher at Transparency International Georgia, where her main projects included National Integrity System assessment and Open Budget Survey. Her research interests include conflict transformation, identity issues, and nationalism studies. 

Alexander Jishkariani

Alexander Jishkariani holds a BA in Economics (Tbilisi State University) and an MA degree in Public Administration (GIPA). Prior to joining CRRC as a Junior Fellow, Alexander participated in a number of research projects and programs. He has worked on designing a policy paper in framework of GFSIS’s project “Capacity Building for Georgian Leadership” from 2011-2012. The paper explored NGO cooperation perspectives with state and private sectors. Alexander also worked as a development project officer and logistics officer at British Council and the British Embassy. Alexander’s main research interests relate to civil society, youth development and sports.

Edisher Baghaturia

Edisher Baghaturia holds a BA in International Relations from Tbilisi State University and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Politics at the same university. Before becoming a Junior Fellow at CRRC, Edisher was involved in a media monitoring project at Transparency International – Georgia. He has also worked as a researcher/interviewer for the Darmstadt University project “EU Democracy Promotion in South Caucasus and Central Asia.” Edisher also completed a long-term analyst preparation program at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS). His fields of interest include foreign policy analysis and security issues. He is also interested in social and cultural geography. 

Tamar Chkhaidze

Tamuna Chkhaidze holds a BA in Social Sciences from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University with a major in psychology. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in psychological anthropology (Interdisciplinary). Before joining the CRRC’s Junior Fellowship Program, she was involved in a research project which aimed to study national and religious attitudes in Georgian youth funded by Academic Swiss Caucasus Net and worked as Focus Group Moderator in a survey for evaluating the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program funded by USAID. She also participated in research conducted with the aim of adapting in Georgian society diagnostic instruments for autism and was an intern in McLain Association for Children (MAC) Behavioral Management. Maka Chkhaidze

Maka Chkhaidze graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili State University with an MA in Cultural, Political and Social Psychology. Currently she is a PhD student at Ilia State University and is specializing in cultural studies. Before becoming a Junior Fellow, she participated in a number of research projects. Her research interests include minority issues, women’s rights and sub-cultures.

Zakaria Tavberidze

Zakaria is an MA student at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, in the faculty of Journalism. Before joining the CRRC Junior Fellowship Program, Zakaria was involved in media monitoring projects at Transparency International – Georgia and Internews – Georgia. He has also worked as a monitoring specialist at the National Center for Teacher Professional Development for more than one year. His research interests include media, social capital and segregation. Zakaria is also curious about philosophy, modern social theory and visual sociology.
