Rayya El Zein is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Tsereteli Oriental Institute at Ilia University. She earned her PhD from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.

Her research concerns urban youth cultures, subcultures, and performance in the Arab world and its diasporas.
