Report | Media and Disinformation in Georgia: Patterns of Consumption, Public Perceptions, and Fact-Checking Practices

Year: 2025

Authors: Lia Chkhetiani, Data Collection Manager; Tinatin Bandzeladze, Researcher

The report examines how Georgian citizens consume media, perceive disinformation, and practice fact-checking in a polarized information environment. Its purpose is to understand public attitudes toward media credibility, identify vulnerabilities in media literacy, and provide evidence-based insights to help democratic actors respond to challenges related to propaganda and information manipulation.

The study uses a mixed-methods approach combining three surveys conducted in 2025 (two telephone surveys of the Georgian-speaking population and one face-to-face regional survey in Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Kvemo Kartli) along with focus group discussions in Tbilisi. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and cross-tabulations to compare responses by age, gender, settlement type, and party affiliation.

The report was prepared within the project “Countering Anti-Democratic Propaganda Through Engagement,” implemented by CRRC-Georgia with the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
