In this talk Oliver Reisner attempts to synthesize the developments in Georgia’s memorial landscape in order to make sense of recent memory studies applied to Georgia.
Dr. Oliver Reisner is professor of European and Caucasian Studies at Ilia State University since September 2015. Before he worked for ten years with the EU Delegation to Georgia and World Vision Georgia. In 2000 he earned his doctoral degree in history at Georg-August University Goettingen with a thesis on nation building in Georgia in late 19th and early 20th centuries. Afterwards he coordinated a post-graduate MA program on “Cental Asia/Caucasus” at Humboldt University in Berlin. W-i-P is an ongoing academic discussion series based in Tbilisi, Georgia, that takes place at the Eurasian Partnership Foundation at Kavsadze St. 3. It is co-organized by the Caucasus Research Resource Centers (CRRC), the American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS, and the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC). All of the talks are free and open to the public.
The purpose of the W-i-P series is to provide support and productive criticism to those researching and developing academic projects pertaining the Caucasus region.
