Funder: UN Women
Dates: February 2018 - June 2018
Project objective: Comparative study of the causes and consequences of women's economic inactivity and engagement in the informal economy in order to further support growth of women's economic opportunities.

The study was commissioned by the UN Women with financial support of the Swiss Cooperation Office in the South Caucasus. Data was collected by CRRC-Georgia, CRRC-Armenia and CRRC-Azerbaijan. The study design was developed and data was analyzed by CRRC-Georgia through consultations with Dr. Alexis Diamond and Dr. Margaret Jenkins.
Research design: Within the Comparative Study of the Causes and Consequences of Women’s Economic Inactivity and Engagement in the Informal Economy, CRRC prepared literature review and carried out public opinion surveys, focus groups, and key informant interviews in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The survey data was analyzed using quasi-experimental matching methods. Public opinion surveys were representative of the adult population of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. In Georgia, 1438 interviews were completed and the average margin of error of the survey was 3.9%. The organization provided a report describing the causes and consequences of women's economic inactivity in the South Caucasus and the impact of women's engagement in vulnerable employment in the region.
Output: Reports on the causes and consequences of women's economic inactivity and engagement in the informal economy in Georgia and in Armenia.
