Study on Voting and Political Attitudes in Georgia

Country: Georgia
Funder: National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)
Dates: March 2019 - March 2021
Project objective: Study the electorate's attitudes towards the electoral process and analysis of current political trends in Georgia.

CRRC-Georgia, with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), has conducted 38 waves of nationwide opinion polls and over 100 focus group discussions since 2008 which delved into a variety of political and policy issues in Georgia. The data collection effort has included partial panel and experimental survey designs. These are some of the only data collection efforts in Georgia which measure longitudinal public attitudes towards politics, policy preferences, voting behavior, and gender issues and are made publicly available. Since 2012, CRRC-Georgia has conducted over 40,000 interviews within the scope of this project.

Part of the project was the social media monitoring of online violence against women politicians during the pre-election period of the Parliamentary Elections 2020. The study examines the nature, extent, and sources of harassment of women majoritarian candidates in the 2020 parliamentary elections. Data for the study was collected using a combination of manual and automated (scraped) approaches. Additional data – deleted abusive comments and abusive inbox messages were received as screenshots via email from social media teams of women majoritarian candidates.
Research design: Nationally representative survey; Complex (stratified and cluster) sampling. The survey was held using the CAPI method until 2020. All the survey waves of 2020 and following that were held using the CATI method.
Output: Social media monitoring report: "Violence against women in politics on Facebook
